I’ve only been back at Abbeyhill for a month but what a month it’s been! We’ve had Health Week, Sports Day, various trips, the P7 show and barbecue (including the annual water fight) plus a playground tidy up and Summer Garden Party organised by the Parent Council. New P1s have been welcomed with a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and parents have been given all the information they need (I hope) to get them through this milestone.
This school session has seen lots of change at Abbeyhill and it was lovely to come back from maternity leave to find out about everything that has been happening. Next year promises to be exciting as well with further playground developments in the pipeline and the addition of a ‘cooking classroom’ thanks to a successful bid for a Food for Thought grant. New community partnerships have been forged and we look forward to welcoming staff from Santander to help develop part of our grounds. Play based learning will be further developed in P1 and we have a fantastic team raring to go with our new P1s in August. Established partnerships continue to flourish and nowhere is this more evident than in our involvement with the Colony of Artists festival which will be on 22nd and 23rd of September this year. Artists in Residence work with our children all year to provide enriching experiences and the festival is a wonderful opportunity to showcase their work.
Of course, none of this would happen without the fantastic staff, children, parents and partners at Abbeyhill and I thank each and every one of you for all that you do for the school; a special thanks goes of course to Mrs Gracie who led the school while I was off.
Have a wonderful summer holiday and I look forward to seeing you all in August. To our P7s who left us today, good luck as you embark upon this next stage of your life and don’t forget us at Abbeyhill!
